Upcoming FB EM interview: System design v/s Product design

Hi FB interviewers, I have an upcoming FB EM interview and understand the expectations from system design interview: focussed on backend distributed systems, expalining different components and scalability, sharding; etc. Would like to understand the expectations from product design interview. Does it include high-level architecture and then explaining particular component or just api design/classes oops? Any examples would be very helpful. Thanks. Current TC: 245k

Somewhat off topic and obviously IMO but my best advice is to pursue employment elsewhere. FB has terrible WLB and QOL, the internal culture is directionless and competitive, customer trust is non existent so new product launches fail and senior leadership is tone deaf. Not to mention their product is undermining democracy and increasing social isolation. You’ll be embarrassed to tell people you work there. Poor long term prospects. Avoid.

Lol, yes go to Amazon and feel proud about the work you’re doing to change the world. Btw, you either worked at FB or you are way over your head talking shit you dont even know about un terms of WLB and QOL

I just had my E6 interview last week and I was given the choice as well. I did one of each. Honestly, I had no idea what the difference was before the interview, and also after. I also didn't even know which interview was which as I was interviewing. For me, there wasn't much difference because I ended up covering the product and backend scaling components basically equally. Just pretend you're giving an InfoQ talk and the interviewer will ask questions about the stuff he's interested in
