I'm pretty sure there will be a recession / bubble burst etc. From learnings of the past, if there were a recession which companies will not fire aggressively in comparison?

I'm thinking definitely not to opt for pure tech companies for the next couple of years. I'm thinking insurance, healthcare.

Any suggestions?

@Intuit I am a SDE that is in transition to SDM now. Like I said there are bad apples but not all teams or managers do that. I am learning about the whole process myself. If there is a team of 5 excellent engineers then one of them won’t be on PIP always. It’s also relative to other SDEs in the org. Yeah, there is that mandatory stupid quota but hey it’s not like every two pizza team fires.

I have seen people get PiP but it’s team and manager dependent. My team now has engineers for 5 years and there was no PIP on it so far.

So don’t generalize. Often times the posts you see on blind are from new grads or those that couldn’t handle the stress and performance bars. Good folks are let go because of politics too, but I see that’s less percentage.

Just to clarify I joined Amazon myself recently and not on kool aid. And went through panic state myself and changed teams.

Overall if you are in a right team and it’s pandemic or recession then Amazon is definitely one of the safest companies to work for.

Microsoft is absolutely not safe. They had layoffs in the middle of pandemic this year.
