I have <1 YOE but applied to a mid-level role at a large government contractor for shits and giggles and went through their interview loops. They ended up calling back and saying "we really like you, you passed all the technical questions and we want to make an offer at mid-level but I need some time to try to sell HR on letting us hire you at the same level as someone with 2-3 YOE". How likely do you think it is that this will actually happen?
Currently TC: 0 I'm fat and unemployed

They only will try to promote outside the rule and give above average raises if you're a flight risk.
I've only experienced this type. Supposedly there's others which are trying to actually compete for talent. Most are just looking for warm bodies.
