All of these happened around early 2020 when I was looking to get into FAANG, now I am graduating soon (I posted this in another thread but thought it could be fun to make it its own post):
Had an interview with Apple, it was 4 30 minute rounds back to back, the first 3 went great and thought I’m gonna get the internship. The last round was with the manager of the team, he was 15 minutes late, had the thickest accent I’ve ever heard and the first thing he asked me once he joined was what year I’m in, I told him third, he asked "third year high school?". So he clearly did not even look at my resume as I have my university at the top of my resume. Then he asked me if I can join for this summer (it was March and I told the recruiter and coordinator that I already have a job for the summer, and it was also on my resume that I have a job for the summer and that I’m looking for fall internship), then he said “okay, don’t need, bye”. So I wasted almost 2 hours of my life and had a 1 minute call with a a manger who didn’t even read my resume and hung up on me.
Also had an interview with FB for an internship, where the coordinator told me I can use any language in the interview, and told me I can use C++. Turns out in the interview I was required to use Python, I told the interviewer that I can’t code these questions in Python as I have minimal experience with it (at that point). So he allowed me to use C++ and then try my best in Python, when I failed to write it in Python he told me right before the interview ended that I would have passed to the next round if the interview was in C++ but since it was in python, the hiring committee won’t pass me most likely, and they didn’t.
Also had the exact same thing happen with Tesla as with FB, but the guy didn’t even let me try in C++.
I met a couple of guys from a local start-up at a networking event, and secured an interview with them. The interview went pretty well, it was with 2 guys in their mid 20s and it was just a chill discussion and theoretical questions, no coding. At one point one of the guys stood up and came back with a vape and started vaping on camera. This interview was around summer 2020 and these guys told me that they have been quarantining together and living at the start up office so that they can come into work everyday. I think their team was around 6-7 people.
So I had quite bad luck with FAANG hahaha

Furthermore, it would have been more plausible if you wanted to code in python but instead were forced to do C++ since C++ is a highest supported/first class language at FB (along with Hack). python is a 2nd class language.
I interned there, and the interviews are primarily algo focused. The solution isn’t language dependent, you can use any language.
Also, if it language truly was the issue you could have mentioned this to the recruiter. It is common for FB to give a 3rd interview if they think there was enough promise.
The interview was for network automation intern
Ya it was my first faang interview so I didn’t complain to the recruiter or anything. I would definitely do it now tho
