Urgent!! Can I hide the fact that I'm currently pursuing a job?

Recently graduated and joined IBM. But looking for other opportunities. Can I say that I don't have a job right now to any hiring manager? I've not put my new job on my resume yet. Please share your thoughts. Thanks

No

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 10, 2018

Sure, thanks. It's better to be safe than sorry. I guess later I might have a problem.

eBay Horse798 Aug 10, 2018

True....if u do get an offer they will know about your previous employer.

Actually having a job makes you more employable

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 10, 2018

Really? But it's just been a month. That's why I didn't add it in my resume to have the benefits of recent grad tag.

It is still better than No Job

Microsoft UWFy68 Aug 10, 2018

Don’t lie, it’s never a good idea. Just be honest to potential hiring managers that you didn’t find the right fit, so decided to start looking again. Also, some level of reasonable explanation would be warranted depending on how long you have been there for...

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 10, 2018

Ok thank you. It's been just about a month here. Don't like the assignment. So, I'm looking actively.

Amazon rosesrred Aug 10, 2018

Just say that. No need to lie.

Google NaGeFuNv Aug 10, 2018

Background check might expose things that you hide from next employer. So no.

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 10, 2018

Yeah, makes sense. thanks for sharing your thoughts.

And what will happen if they find about working for IBM for a month?

If you are only one month in and already looking for a new job, are you sure you gave your current employer enough chance? Sounds a bit hasty, especially for a finished grad that still needs to learn about workplace dynamics.

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 10, 2018

Hi, I understand your point. I'm looking for a dev role which is not possible here till an year. I don't wanna be named as support specialist. That's why this escape plan.

Thanks for the clarification, have you tried expressing your interest to other departments? sometimes you can get internally promoted quite fast if you've made a good impression and talked to the right people.

Are you in the CBD program? No one likes their first gig, but just roll off and onto another one when ur date ends

IBM PowerStar! OP Aug 13, 2018

What's CBD? I'm a new grad hire and they randomly assigned me to some team without considering my interests. I had no other offer, so I have joined.

it’s fine to have a mismatch with your first job.

Salesforce uTTA76 Aug 10, 2018

Do you already have a portfolio to share with a new employer? If you've only been in the current role a month, they may need some examples of your work to be convinced. It's never good to lie, but having something that shows you dont want tour skills to atrophy isn't a bad idea.

Oracle Widnebejf Aug 10, 2018

You have to prove you’re good at coding. I would suggest you do a project or at least leetcode in your spare time so you can show it off when given chance to interview. The job experience part is hit or miss...but don’t leave out your current job. It’s okay to be looking if it’s not a match.

eBay 👀RUseless Aug 11, 2018

Not necessary to put the current employment if it is just a month... Background checks never find the employment you never mentioned... its not their job... Myself worked for a company for 6 months and IBM for 18 days... never mentioned about those in my resume... After that, my background check happened for 4 times, nobody found about it... So, dont put that in you resume, if you dont want it... Never mention about it too, if you are not comfortable...
