What are some companies that offer a joint engineering + design role for interns/new grads? (I already know that Google does). Not looking for ‘regular’ frontend - more interested in the designing/prototyping. I have experience with iOS dev / design with AR. If you’d like to see my portfolio, comment below and I’ll message you.
I’m a UX designer but I don’t do any coding, I just do the design, prototyping, research and testing stuff. I love the field! I’m accepting an offer at Amazon atm.
Congratulations. 🥳🎉🎉🥳
Congrats! So few designers on Blind.
So not sure about interns (could be more structured) but for new grads the coding will definitely be seen as an asset and will be utilized especially for user testing prototypes. I would apply for product design or ux design roles. Do not apply to visual design, systems design, graphic/branding/marketing design, or production design. I also would likely stay away from most frontend dev positions unless it’s a very small company/startup. It won’t be as creative as you would like. At bigger companies the roles will change depending on your strengths and hiring managers will want you because they want someone with that experience. Just be truthful when talking with hiring managers about what you want to do, learn and accomplish. Hiring managers want to utilize your skills and help make you (and them!) successful especially if many designers don’t have it. And having a prototyper on the design team is a huge plus.
Man. I'm doing all of the above + frontend + backend and infra. Feel like I'm being taken advantage of :(
Holy shit even backend? You might be.
Isn't this just UX/product design internships? What's the question here exactly?
Snap has a role for this: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/design-product-engineer-at-snap-inc-1609053104
