Purchased a house last year and got the appraisal at the same price I purchased. Is there a point in protesting the property tax assessment?
Do any third parties help? If so any recommendations?

Thanks.

If the appraisal is the purchase price what exactly are you protesting? Are you hoping to convince someone that you overpaid for your house lol?

Gov loves their taxes and will take as much as they can get. Filing a protest is a waste if you just bought the house as the comp will include your own house haha

    • lol - another ignorant comment from someone who prolly never protested in TX. There are enough services that gets paid portion of saved taxes if you reduce taxes. Most cases get settled pretty easily

Wait a minute. Did you expect the price to actually go down from last year up to now?

That to me is news. In CA the assessment of that year or immediately following is the price of the property purchased. So op is saying they purchased the property for x and you are saying that it could potentially be lower.

Technically Texas is a non disclosure state so the district isn’t supposed to know sales prices. They got sued a few years ago for directly accessing MLS data but now they just buy the data from a third party to get around that ruling

File your protest yourself online and check out the evidence pack. They’ll likely send you a sheet of paper that shows your purchase price in which case you won’t have any luck fighting.

Get your homestead exemption filed though, as that will definitely help you out.

  • Genius’s like OP are the reason why the housing market situation (mainly Texas) is the way it is.
OMG.. why would you OFFER a price where you do not even know how much tax you will pay.
Has someone told you the HIGHEST BIDEER does not have to pay TAX?🤣
