Still disagree. Uber rides is actually profitable, it’s the rest of Eats, Freight, Elevate, ATG that isn’t that brings the company into unprofitability.
Amazon Retail is only profitable recently, for years it was losing by reinvesting back into growth.
Amazon has profitable units and continues to invest in stretch categories: Alexa, Go, Drones
Uber has a profitable unit and is killing off multiple categories.
Coronavirus is temporary. FAANG vision isn’t based off a 1 year blip, that’s ridiculous.
Kalanick set these things up for the 10+ year future, and Dara has no vision, technical background, or cajones. He’s just caving to short term wall st. pressure because he only knows how to be an old school IBM/Cisco/Oracle/HP executive. Those are a dime a dozen and it’s why none of them FOUNDED Uber as a department or category. Same old not investing in growth we just talked about.

    • Focus is very important for a business. Once you have the core business in a good shape you can focus on your future bets. One shouldn't go all in on the future bets when your core business itself is suffering.

Uber is a company that is literally loosing billions of dollars every year and it just doesn't make sense to invest in something that may pay off after 10 years.

Dara appears to be doing the right thing here by focusing on profitability and when we are profitable and have the money, we could buy another Elevate

😂😂 Uber was founded in 2009 during the Great Recession. There are 1000 Dara equivalents CEO’ing companies then that thought the same shit you’re saying now.
“Rideshare? We’re in a recession, we can’t afford to build that, it’ll pay off after 10 years, we have problems now.”
Lo and behold they’re mostly 10b market caps that can’t buy 90b Uber now...
