Amazon and Google has slightly different smart home strategies. Amazon will build as many devices as possible for the hime while also partnering with oems. Google only plans to build a few and let oems and the Android ecosystem do the rest, while concentrating more effort on making it smarter.
Eventually most oems will have both Alexa and assistant on their device to get all customers. The differentiators will be smartness and taking it with you (phone). Amazon's edge is buying from Amazon.
