"I only care about your thought process in the interview" is a bullshit

Apr 18 21 Comments

I have interviewed big Tech companies much more than I wished and I have never ever passed an interview when I didn't fully solved the problem.

I still see companies say "we don't care about having fully functional code" or "I only care about your thought process". These hasn't been true at all in my case.

Just memorize A* and keep saying you have seen the question before until they ask A* and you’ll look pro

If they ask you to go ahead even if you know the question already, implement A* regardless and gaslight them into believing that’s what they asked

lmao did we just discover OP strategy? If you don't know the leetcode question, bluff and say you've already seen it to hope they change questions lol

  • I mean I think it’s their way of saying “don’t sit there in silence for 30 minutes hammering at the keyboard without saying a word”

  • Me too.. It's a complete bullshit. It all depends on how the interviewer is feeling. I've had excellent working code, talked, described approaches, left interviews feeling like I nailed it and still don't pass. It's a gamble and luck to be honest. You cannot control the other person's feelings. Unless we come up with an unbiased AI to conduct interviews, it's going to keep happening. It's the human experience

I was supposed to solve two questions in a Meta phone screening and I only solved one in which I barely had time to code it out. I communicated every bit of the problem and discussed time/space complexity etc. Passed to onsite.

  • Disagree. When we interview, there have been regular cases when people didn't finish and passed and when they completed everyrhing and didn't pass.
