I'm in my 30s. I've always had a perfectly average body. I've tried getting into gym routines before but I never stuck to it enough to make a difference.
I've finally found something that works for me, and so I thought I'd share.
Last year, I got a Peloton and a Tonal.
Peloton is pretty well known: spin bike with a screen and classes
Tonal is a bit less known: it's a functional trainer with automatic weight management.
Together, it costs around $250/month (monthly payments over 3 years + subscriptions)
Thanks to those, I don't have to think about what I'm going to be doing. I just dedicate 40mn of my day to it. The Peloton bike manages the resistance so I just have to pedal at the speed it tells me to do.
The tonal tells me which movement to do, and sets up the weight. It counts the reps for me and increase the weight slowly overtime to build muscle.
I just have to show up, turn off my brain and push through it. It takes less time than a typical episode of a TV show.
It's been about 9 months and it already got me in the best shape I've ever been. I'm sure I'll eventually plateau and will also need to incorporate change to my diet if I want to progress more, but I'm not looking into becoming Dwayne Johnson, I'm perfectly happy with being fit with visible muscle

The trick is to be consistent
Consistency is the key. You don't get burnt out
You can get far more for $20 a month at your local gym (even cheaper with promotions). Or you could run outside for free since you don't seem particularly interested in weights. Besides, being in shape is more about being consistent and eating well. There's less than zero need for fancy equipment. Most fitness trainers at most gyms have no clue about what they're doing.
I've tried the $20/month gym before. Didn't work for me. Too easy to talk myself out of it when you have to get ready and drive there. Once there, I'm not sure which exercise to do, at which weight, when to increase it, etc.
No more excuses when the equipment is right there and it tells you what to do. It's closer to a personal trainer.

Tonal is all about weight, so it's a big part of it. Otherwise, Peloton by itself would be enough
I’m trying to decide between the two now
Thanks for confirming it works for you. I struggle with the same issue
Tonal will challenge you with real weight that build muscle faster, and can keep increasing them as you progress
