For reference, I am on one of the front office teams, on the low latency side.
On to your questions.
Company culture:
1) The culture here is very good. There is a very strong emphasis on keeping the culture that way i.e tons of collaboration among team members, a strong "no jerks allowed here" attitude, provide a good work environment to people here in terms of the work done and WLB.
It does work given the fact that a ton of employees here, especially traders, have been here for a very long time.
2) Managers here, based on my own and others that I have interacted with, are very good. Their main aim is to see you grow, and they will support you in whatever way they can to get that done. If you have any issues with your work or any obstacles, they will get to it asap.
Managers, in engineering, are very technically competent. They too work on a lot of the hardcore technical stuff. In terms of helping when teammates are stuck on something technical, they will help you 1:1 as soon as they can.
I have worked here with traders too, and I can say everyone I have encountered is humble. No signs of arrogance.
3) The company does operate as a meritocracy, at least from what I have seen. If you work hard, grow and provide impact, you are rewarded with good increments to base and expected bonus. Have seen folks like that get rewarded even when they had only been here a few months.
Impact here is rewarded more than how senior someone is in the firm. Have seen people who did a great job, and led high impact projects, become partners or get promoted much faster than people who have been here for longer.
4) For RTO, we seem to be doing better than other trading firms. In engineering, front office teams will be following a hybrid policy (3 days in, 2 days WFH), most other engineering teams will be doing only a few days in the office every month + most of the month WFH, some engineering teams are being allowed to do full remote.
WLB:
WLB here is very good. For the most part, we work 40 hours a week and I see most folks log off by 5 pm. There might be some times when we are working on emergency bug fixes or a critical feature and a dev might have to work a little more, but 90+% of the time, 8 hours a day is the norm here.
Other things:
Currently, this is a great time to be here if someone is joining a front office engineering team. The firm is expanding a lot on engineering, and also expanding into more areas. For someone who is a go getter and can provide impact, this is a great time for them to be here, as the opportunity here to do that and rise is pretty good right now.
I am happy to see someone from tech i.e not someone coming in from a trading firm get an offer like this. In my experience, given that we get a lot of folks coming here from places like Citadel, it seemed that folks coming in with experience from trading firms, only got offers like these. Glad to see that they have done the same for someone from FAANG.
Your offer looks like one of the front office teams. If you'd like to talk about team-specific stuff then please feel free to DM, I can answer stuff related to that there.
