Was curious to learn more about product interviews at VMware. I've done some prep work myself, but wanted to see what others have experienced. What specific things do they look for, the "technical" questions, etc. Thank you advance!
PM at VMware require a strong engineering background. Their PM’s are mainly ex-SWE’s which makes sense because all of the products are heavily technical.
I’d say that you don’t need SWE experience but you have to be technically proficient. Having an undergraduate/graduate degree in CS and/or SWE experience is a good proxy for this requirement.
I did product interviews with several teams at VMware. The questions I received were a mix of going over my prior experience, behavioral questions, PM skills (prioritization, launching, cross-functional leadership), and a few cases here and there. Also know the team’s product in depth (core value proposition, strengths, competition, etc.) Definitely less predictable than PM interviews at Google or Amazon but overall I would say they were easier than your average FAANG PM interview. Hope this helps!
Shitty company, an empire made by indians. At interviews instead of judging your technical skills, interviewers show their knowledge and grill you for unrelated/unwanted areas.
Now you have vented your frustrations, Can you tell me which team interviewed you?
