Curious... had some great feedback and the interview process was going back to back. Was given very positive feedback and then the recruiter responded saying they will have an update by Friday. Nothing.... then I emailed agin and she responded saying the team is finishing up interviews and should have final steps by frisay( this is the next week)... nothing. Not sure if that means I didn’t get the job... or the recruiter is genuinely booked solid. Any advise would be appreciated.
You may be a backup. The recruiters at VMware are possibly flogged for letting people hang out there too long. Every time I was in charge of hiring someone, if someone on my team was screwing around and not making a decision, or wanted to see what other candidates came through, the recruiter got super frustrated with me that we didn’t want to cut the other candidates loose.
It’s somewhat what I figured, and thank you for the advise! It’s interesting that she said, she will get back to me with final steps... and that was very clear in her email. She did respond each week with an update to say they are still interviewing but it’s less communication than what took place at the beginning stages.
Ip- the hiring manager was amazed at what I brought to the table and the fact that I went above and beyond creating an entire plan of what I would do... it seemed that he was extremely interested in me. Maybe I did too much work or they truly have to go through the processes to interview for the sake of interviewing. Or maybe they are figuring out the offer stage and working out the numbers on their end? Again, not sure on the process for VMware on the backened... so flying completely blind... pun intended
This is exactly what she said: Thank you for checking in and apologies on the delay as I was on back to back calls. We are finishing up the team interviews for the candidates this week and should have update by Friday on final steps. I am to talk with (hiring manager)in the afternoon and will let you know update as we connect, later afternoon. Never updated....
I have had similar experiences in the past. With and outside VMware. If they are on the fence because they are waiting for someone perfect, or they have internal reorganization or million other reasons, they will keep the candidates hanging. Best to keep the pipeline healthy and move on. Ping the recruiter every few days or every week until they give you a firm answer. It took them 4 months to hire me in Vmware as the group was going through reorg. But I wasn’t actively looking so it didn’t matter.
Some recruiters call this keeping candidate warm. If it's more than 2 weeks, most likely you're one of the backups. Keep looking and show them an offer from competitors. If they want you so bad, they can easily make you an offer in a day.
It is beginning of FY and some tweaking is taking place. Hold tight and you should know something soon. Most tweaks are happening this week
Things are probably on hold until Dell makes up his mind as to what he is going to do: buy the rest of VMware. Sell Dell to VMware, sell all or part of VMware, nothing. If you are a betting man, you want an offer before this is announced, and thus risk getting a crappy offer. So unless you are under some pressure to leave Msft, I suggest being chill.
They actually kept stringing me along for about 45 days starting Dec 1st (interview date) till January 2nd week. The recruiter was painting a rosy picture saying that hiring manager is trying to get an offer yada yada.. After few follow up emails, I got a concrete reject. I’m so glad I dodged that team.

This can mean two things in my opinion: (a) They are making an offer to another candidate and you are their backup option in case the other one doesn't accept the offer. (b) They want to interview all the candidates in the pipeline before making you an offer.
Yea. The last email from her said...(this was last week)... they are finishing up team interviews for the role and should have an update on final steps by Friday. ( didn’t get an update)
