I’m a new dev. I got a new computer. Thought I’d install the newest Visual Studio and give Core a go. I have never been so embarrassed to be .Net developer. It is a literal dumpster fire of useless broken features, convoluted processes and zero information geared towards, like, dumb programmers like me. My first attempt a preloaded package was completely broke. Second attempt the package manager doesn’t support the framework. This is a big waste of my time. And you know what would be super cool!?!? If Microsoft was like “Hey all you people out there who build apps on OUR framework on OUR dev environment - here’s a list of broke shit in plain English all in one central location so you don’t have to google your way to space and back figuring this out” or even better, DON’T RELEASE SHIT UNTIL IT WORKS. A complete mess and waste of my time. I could have spent the last three hours working on projects and becoming a better programmer but no, I spent three hours wondering why I decided to get into this field omg I must be an idiot why doesn’t this work am I doing this wrong I might as well go back to tech support because who am I kidding I’ll never be good at this.
.net core does suck big time
:D I am not alone! Thank you.
U r probably doing something wrong if it sucks that bad for u
...sigh.... I probably am...
typical microsoft bullshit - always blame the user, because our tools and software is sooooo good
😆
Wasting three hours over learning to use a new stack? This is how I know you're new. Sometimes it takes that long before you know WTF you're supposed to do. Hell if I pick up a new stack I had no experience in it would take me a whole day to get comfortable with it.
Thank you for your kind words :)
Idk, I’ve never had a problem with Core 2.0 and VS2017.
I don't understand the point of the rant. Instead why not look for solutions to the problems you faced. Encountering issues and solving them, is how you get better. You'll face issues and challenges, no matter which framework /tool you choose.
I don’t understand the point of this comment. Instead why not look for solutions to the problems your consumers face? Encountering negative feedback and solving the problem is how your brand does not become obsolete. You’ll face customer issues and solving them is how companies stay marketable and relevant.
.Net Core and VS Code are fully open source on GitHub. If the problems you faced were so widespread. The community would've fixed them by now. I'm new to .Net myself and haven't faced many problems.
“omg I must be an idiot why doesn’t this work am I doing this wrong I might as well go back to tech support because who am I kidding I’ll never be good at this.” OP, I completely agree with you.
Visual studio is probably the most complete IDE. Vs code is also really good editor. I recently moved over to vs code from atom and I am Not going back.

The voice of someone who never helped mom/dad mow the lawn or shovel the driveway. Bet you feel that all your college loans should be forgiven. Own your short comings junior - be glad you are getting an opportunity to work with these tools. No one likes a whiner.
Let me guess, You found your first computer in the trash, spent hours at library pouring over manuals so you could fix it yourself and only learned to code by sneaking into lectures at your local college, all while taking care of your 7 younger siblings while your mother worked and who knows where your drunk POS father was. I’m in my thirties and doing a career change. Let me bitch. I finally know enough about what I’m doing to bitch.
You sound like you'd suck to work with. Please never come to FANG companies... or the west coast.
