Wasted so much time typing code on crappy leetcode UI. FU Google for creating the culture of white board coding. I suck at it and can’t improve my TC now :(

Spent 7 hours coding on a whiteboard at my Microsoft interview in 1990. Well before Google.

I had a course for distributed calculations back in 2008 or somewhere around. We had a supercomputer to use but the professor asked us to submit printouts of the code. I once submitted my assignment late by catching him in a hallway, he said "no problem, let me check it", took the papers, read for like 10 minutes (there was a lot of code) without even blinking and returned them to me telling "there's a memory leak, come back tomorrow".
Now I realise that there're basic things that you check to find those leaks (mine was straightforward) but back then I was shocked by this scene. I still think that he may be an android who just executed the code and found out that the process leaks memory, it explains his appearance 😅

Coding on a whiteboard has been an interview staple since before Google was incorporated.

They don't use Google doc anymore. They share a link to a code pad now.

It's not a Google doc. They share an interview.google.com link. I would say it was the equivalent of writing code in Vim without any plugins. You get indentation and syntax highlighting which is miles better than a plain Google doc at docs.google.com.
