Deciding whether or not to stay at PwC or take an Ops Mgr role at a Fintech company

PwC - $150K base + $50K in bonuses over the next 8-10 months

FinTech (pre IPO) - $117K base, 10% bonus, $280K RSUs (vested equally over 4 years so $70K RSUs per year)

So, PWC is essentially 200k. Fin tech is 117 k+ 11.7k + $70k = 198.7k. How is Fintech the better offer? I wouldn’t change companies for less than a 20k bump, let alone a pay cut. 🤷‍♂️

I think it depends which VCs have invested in the fintech firm as that is a good way to evaluate chance of their exit. If reputable VCs have invested in the fintech, then i would go for it.

The other thing to consider would be, if you’re in strategy or m&a strategy, is ops something you want to do?

  • How much do you believe in the Fintech? If you feel so strongly that if you could invest a significant % of your own cash in them pre-ipo, then join. If it’s a really hot company near IPO, it’s a pretty unique opportunity to be able to get 280k in shares at pre-ipo pricing.

If you don’t feel very strongly about the company, stay at PwC and leave for a company you’re more excited about. (Or one that’s giving a clear pay increase.)
