Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

How have you not burned out? What keeps you going to work each day? As an outsider and peruser of blind lots of folks from Amazon seem like they're on the brink or absolutely hate it and want to get out. Want to hear some of your stories of how you overcome
Once you have been here 3 years or so, and have survived at least two talent reviews, you likely know what the fuck you are doing. Can still end up with a shitty manager, or get burned out due to other org changes, but if you also have been internally promoted at least once, you won't hit a big four year cliff and working at Amazon can be pretty damn good!
I’m burned out as hell. Going back to retail to rest, vest, and leetcode.
A lot of these responders sound like tech folk. Any non tech peeps thoughts? Or to the tech peeps what's your impression of non tech burnout not as severe?
what u mean non-tech? that’s a broad categorization
On the biz side, P&L owners, marketing, people managers etc
On my 7th year, still finding passionated
What's keep you passionate about it?
Definitely not money, lol. I am lucky having a cool, challenging problem to solve.
I’ve noticed the people that complain are usually the under-performers. If you get your shit done and work hard, it’s awesome because the work is interesting.
I’ll add: it also depends on the team you’re on. There’s thousands of teams so there’s inevitably bad ones. Most you get out what you put in
Blind is full of poor performers complaining they are being managed out.
Good point if you're busy and fulfilled you won't spend time on blind to complain or become influenced by complainers.
I believe there's always valid reasoning why "poor performers" are being vocal. It's depressing to see the Blind community view people who need support as people below them and deserve to be managed out. Truly a toxic mindset to have.
There are definitely good and bad groups within Amazon. It's also the case that it is mostly low performers complaining, but also some good people in bad groups. Note that "low performer" at Amazon doesn't mean you were bad at your job, just not as good at it as everyone else around you.
My previous team is all 5+, mgr was 11y. They are all chill and amazing and I moved because of reorg only( team got split)
Key is : look into future programs that would bring customer value and make sure your team is nice. My team is. There are definitely time when everyone is tired and works late, but at the end we all know it would bring us great perf reviews, so its worth it.
my team is all 4 and only 5 is the new manager. except that everyone is chill, the management is completely shit inside and out
I know a guy 10+ yrs at Amazon and chillin, he just been there a while and rests on his accumulated knowledge.
