Depends on team. Do they manage managers?
Not managing teams
L5 at Google all the time. Visa Director is an inflated title. A Visa Director is also L27 at Paypal.
Actually L5 at Google earns more..
Depends - director can be a people manager or individual contributor. Authority will depend on team structure; most directors are not final decision makers. Comp-wise it falls somewhere around the senior manager level at other organizations
I interviewed for VP, and couldn't believe the level of the people I talked with. 0 tech knowledge. 0 financial knowledge. One guy was updating his Twitter while interviewing me. He was proud of their mainframe transactions per second! VISA looks like the place with the most inflated titles I've ever seen.
Yeah friend works at Citicorp and got promoted from VP to manager. So bank titles are weird.
I know of a very average guy who is now a director at visa. So it sounds it's all inflated at visa
Director is typically not a manager position. I'd also avoid working at V or MC unless you're happy having that title for ten years.
Only MD positions are managing positions. VP and ED in bank is IC position. There is history behind titles (authority to sign).
Also, director=leader. VP=business leader. Senior Business Leader is also externally a VP. SBLs usually have the headcount.
First level manager , manage engineers
VP title is Visa is big, not easy to get. Director is easy but nowadays snr Director is getting rationed with scrutiny
Director
