Visa offer evaluation

I recently received an offer from Visa for Senior Software Engineer(I5) position location Foster City. Need help with evaluating the offer. I feel pretty low baller. Base: $132000 No mention of joining in the offer No RSUs YOE: 5yr Is it true that visa has no sign-on or joining bonus and only adds if you have current offer. I have another offer from healthcare company. Any thoughts will help. #tech

Ridiculously low.

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 27, 2022

Exactly, I don’t know why even such low offer. The recruiter knew I had offer plus my willing range.

Juniper blimp184 Jan 27, 2022

Yeah. Sometimes I don’t understand what some of these recruiters are thinking.

Pretty low, come check out MDT careers. We need some SWE

Not sure why are they rolling new grad offers for experienced folks. L5 is new grad @ visa and that's Austin's pay.

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 27, 2022

Yes, why would they even do that

new grad for ms not bs

Visa battery100 Jan 27, 2022

That’s extremely low. New grad 0yoe and my TC is close to that in Austin

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 27, 2022

I know and not sure what exactly I can use to negotiate with them.

Visa battery100 Jan 27, 2022

Could you try a different company? There got to be companies lining up for 5YoE

Meta jumbo85 Jan 27, 2022

Take it

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 27, 2022

😅 does it not feel low

Visa aXKi88 Jan 27, 2022

This is too low an offer. I know they gave new college grads similar offers back in 2015/16. No wonder people are not accepting offers.

Ncg in foster ?

Visa aXKi88 Jan 31, 2022

Yeah, NCGs were getting similar offers back then in FC

If you’re prepared to walk away from the offer, they might offer you a sign-on bonus and RSUs. However, I wouldn’t hold my breathe on that. My experience is that your offer greatly reflects the org presenting the offer, because I5 engineers on the team may be making less than $130k base and the manager will not want to give a new hire more money than people s/he already know and trust. So, it really depends on you. If you walk, they may or may not offer more money. I would keep interviewing and try other companies. The offer is low in this economy yes, but some I6 engineers in Foster City aren’t even getting as much base pay yet.

Visa jiBi20 Jan 29, 2022

Existing i6 employee with approx 160k base and 10% bonus. have got yearly RSU’s pretty much every year expect 2. Not sure how new hires are getting now a days. Just wanted to let you know the existing one. I hope you have bonus in your offer.

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 29, 2022

Mine bonus target VIP mentions 8% of base which is already low than what you have upto 16% max. No sign-on bonus is also a bummer as never seen a company size of Visa would not do sign-on’s. Thanks your input helps 🙂

Visa jiBi20 Jan 29, 2022

They do sign on. But they are kind of laughable 🙂

Visa VQwo80 Jan 30, 2022

I’ve seen people with 5YOE as Staff Software Engineers Titles are highly inflated at Visa so you should also join as Staff at Visa Your TC is lower than mine in Austin with 0YOE

Visa battery100 Jan 30, 2022

Hey what’s your TC?

Extron CoderMonk OP Feb 1, 2022

Is it normal for HRs to ask for showing competing offer letter to them to be able to match.

Visa battery100 Feb 1, 2022

At least mine didn’t

Extron CoderMonk OP Feb 1, 2022

Mine did and it is weird. 😓
