CarGurus vs. Upstart

Have offers from both CarGurus and Upstart. Really leaning towards accepting Upstart based on TC and the work seems exciting and lots of learning and growth opportunities. Also, i’m interested in Fintech and I like the use case for Upstart providing access to more affordable credit using AI. However, I also value work life balance and time with family. Any engineers at Upstart that can give me an idea of your experience so far? Stress level, work load etc. Also, are these offers on par for current market? CarGurus - Principal Software Engineer Base: $170k Stock: $42.5k/yr Bonus: $25.5k Sign on: negotiable TC: $238k Upstart - Senior Software Engineer Base: $174k (negotiating higher) Stock: $87.5k/yr (negotiating higher) Bonus: $26k Sign on: negotiable but seems less likely TC: $287.5 Current TC: 140 YOE: 8 UPDATE: Upstart (final offer) Base: $195k Stock: $98.5k/yr Bonus: $29.25k TC: $322.75k Sign on: $10k

CarGurus has a really good engineering culture, put an emphasis on inclusion I’ve heard

Yeah, I really liked the people I spoke with there and the potential team. That was a major plus. They aren’t fully remote though like Upstart is.

Upstart is a no-brainer. They are even fully remote

Still waiting, should have them today. Also found out i’m getting an offer from Affirm so now really unsure which way to go haha

American Airlines HpSy20 Mar 21, 2022

In my opinion Upstart is better than Affirm!

Care to elaborate? Really not sure which to choose, TC being equal

Affirm gave you 287k ? What’s the final from Upstart A lot of BNPL products exists in the market, though affirm does have a first player advantage I don’t really believe in 3X-4X in that space. They are not profitable yet. Upstart had a rock solid last year, unique technology, going to get into mortgage ( just entered in auto) and profitable!

No i’m still waiting on final numbers from Upstart and Affirm. But just thinking they will probably come in close and try to match eachother. They both seem like great opportunites, but these are some great points! Thanks!
