WFH

What do you know about work from home being restricted lately? I'm hearing that it's being reviewed and restricted firmwide but I think it's just mgmt bs they're telling me. This is another area where jpmc seems to lag behind corporate trends. I've known good workers who've left over it and the company lets them walk. So much for talent retention. Even formal flexible work agreements are not safe as I've been affected. They aren't even worth the digital paper they're printed on.

That's sad.

It's all industries now. Five year cycle when managers and execs get new roles. They got to do something to improve things. So they usually end up going back and forth every 5 years. 2012 all the business publications were talking about wfh and the benefits of it. Now they all talk about company culture from working together and it's benefits.

I'm Chase and I'm WFH and can say I've felt a lot more pressure in the last year or two about it. I feel like they aren't WFH friendly anymore but aren't ready to just force all the WFH employees to relocate or quit yet. I've heard rumors that I'll be forced into an office or I'll need to change jobs. In my LOB there are certain jobs that are WFH and will stay that way long term because they support clients and travel to them a lot.

Ability to WFH (at least 1-2 days per week) has always been a non negotiable for me. Pretty sure I've never had it formally revoked but in a few instances it's been threatened or looming I've gone to my manager right away to make sure it's a known priority. If it's a problem, time to GTFO.

I asked HR what my rights were considering I had FWA in place. I was told, "You have no rights. The company can change the agreement at any time for 'business reasons'." Wasn't happy about that response.

It has become more of a security thing from what I have heard. Due to people logging in from home, they're tunneling through their home network which might have active and undetected viruses or malware. Without true security behind every home, those connections still remain vulnerable. It doesn't mean that you and your boss can't work something out to meet your needs, it's just no longer company policy or the direction they want to go.
