What’s it like being a SWE at Ford? With the emphasis on software and AV work, is the company changing? Do you see yourself having a good career there? #automotive #ford #av

I am a product manager at Ford and I have seen a good transition in the recent when it comes to development. Company under goes more changes in order to be competitive in the market . With said that the development projects are depends on the product you land . It can fairly simple to a large complex product . Salary is kind of good but you cannot compare it against FAANG. Good luck

I'm a full stack SWE at Ford in the AV space. I'd say the company is much better off (focusing on SWEs, agile ceremonies, frequent prod pushes, TDD) than when we were less tech focused, but there are still some annoyances (a lot of meetings, for example). Managers are generally good about conversation and feedback but typically aren't extremely technical. If you're in IT, most programming is paired programming. I honestly want to leave after 3 or 4 years of being here to go make more money someplace else. Other than that, I would definitely think about working here for a long time if I had a mortgage and some kids lol.

The cost of living in Detroit really isn’t that much cheaper than other cities Imo... groceries are priced high in the city about the same as other cities, rent at the newer developed 1bdr units are ~$1.5k, and the city’s income tax is very high.
