I have an Amazon on site in a week. It's level 5 role. All behavioral questions. Help me! Amazon Leadership Principles and the bar raiser rounds are going to be tough since it's all behavioral. The manager and the team likes me and my work. Not much info available on how to crack this. TC: 180k YoE: 7 years #Amazon #interview #microsoft #google
Wait, no leetcode? Or you non eng?
Looks like that, but if they ask leetcode not sure what I'll do. I don't practice that — did fine in my Google/Netflix Technical interviews.
Are you non eng? I doubt it’s just behavioral. Most likely you’re confused because your recruiter probably made sure to tell you about the LP’s and give you a doc with them listed. That doesn’t mean you’ll only be asked that. You should double-check with them and everything they’ve sent so far.
I'll go ahead and do that. It's engineering role but in leadership and community kind of way.
For L6 I had two behavioural interviews and one was half behavioural and half technical It was for an applied science role
So far I have been told that it will not be technical. But feel free to share with me what did the bar raiser round was like? And how was the half technical part of it?
Lots of “tell me about ...” bullshit technical part was about explaining how to approach and solve a DS problem end to end

How do the manager and the team like you and you haven’t even been onsite?
It's a referral from several team members. My work speaks volumes. Hiring manager had a chat with me he absolutely loved my work, strategies, presentation, design, and dev skills.
Could you share more about what to prepare for leadership principles.
I did prepare 2 real time examples with data points for each principle. Also I took a print out to the interview. I had 5 mins in between each interview and I did strike off the ones I have answered. This was especially helpful for me since the interview was overwhelming for me back to back. All the 5 interviews were based on leadership Principles and at the last interview I was running out of real-time examples since the same principle was repeated in different question. So I would recommend to prepare at least 3 or more if possible.
This is extremely helpful. Can you share a bit more about the "running out" of ideas part and how you tackled the Bar raiser? An example based on an Amazon Leadership Principles would go a long way to help me here. Appreciate that.
It is just bullshitting, how are you worried about that?
Exactly because it's just "bullshitting" and there's no way to know what they want you to answer or remember examples of weird scenarios. Preparation can never hurt.
Meh it’s open-ended. If an interviewer considers an LP question where they expect a certain answer then it’s probably on them, not you.
This had helped me: https://medium.com/@scarletinked/are-you-the-leader-were-looking-for-interviewing-at-amazon-8301d787815d
Quite helpful indeed
Usually, behavioral questions are asked in all Amazon interviews, not just bar raiser interview. Bar raiser interview is no different/tougher than other interviews. Bar raiser is a person who ensures that the proper process is followed and the candidate is being judged against the consistent bar across the company. Candidates don’t need to sweat about this interview, it doesn’t carry any extra weight than the other interviews.
Look at the leadership principles online (they are everywhere ). Now think of times in either your current job or previous you have done said principle. Be as explicit at possible providing data when explaining. You don't need to give company names or anything but just facts of what you did. You'll be fine, I wish you the best.
Thank you, this helps a lot. Can you share what the bar raiser round would be like?
It would be pretty much the same as others - 2-4 behav questions, but the interviewer will dig much deeper and would require reasoning for each of your steps, moreover what were other possible options and why did you choose what you did
