UX design making 86k (yes make fun of me) 1.5YOE. I think I have a good chance of getting promoted during mid year, but I think that would increase my salary by around 12%. Should I wait, or just leave my job? Thinking of staying just for that prestige and title, but think of hopping because I feel like I can make more
Location?
DC
I don’t think anyone’s looking at that CapitolOne resume bullet and thinking “prestige and title,” just saying. I’d bail. Make some paper, dawg.
😂 dying
Okay I laughed at that
i don’t care about promotion/title until unless if base of new company is same as current. switch
Are you SA looking for promo to PA? Also jesus we underpay UX people 🤦♂️
The reason I ask is because PA -> manager (next promo) is hard to get so you’ll be at that PA salary for awhile
Yeah I know what you mean, and no, im an associate right now
Don’t be embarrassed about your comp, Blind is full of ridiculous offers with no proof. people would kill to make that much.
I agree. There are people that make insane money, but the majority of people don't make that. 86k is probably fine if you're a single person without debt, when I moved to the bay I made like 120tc (100 base) and saved about 46-52% of my salary (I did have a shit apt though). So when I made more money it was just much sweeter. When you look on blind you may feel poor, but just realize that there are actually a TON of people in the bay that make less than you.
Thank you for that, I appreciate it
I did UX for 6 years and I always made more money switching jobs than I did getting promotions. If you’re not invested in your team and more $$ is worth leaving, leave. You can make way more than that pretty much anywhere.
Okay, thanks, maybe I’m just being too complacent at my current job
86k is great for your experience level. Where are you located? I’d start looking. Your portfolio is probably strong. Don’t go to Oracle, though.
Well how do I get your job?
86k is well below market for a UX designer in the bay. I was making similar to as an entry-level designer at a design agency notorious for paying below a market. (Starting salary in 2015 was 80k, left in 2018 as. Senior designer making 92k. Current base is 160k) For anyone saying comp here can’t be proven, look at angel.co and you’ll find the average pay around 120k - 130k. The range on angel.co is crazy though. You’ll find 80k salaries and then the 180k salaries. But again most startups are paying six figures and the Big guys typically start you around 130 -140k I’d say leave, and increase pay before you increase responsibilities.
They might be in Virginia based on how many people are there in c1
Still probs underpaid tho
Switch and take 25-30% hike
