This is a rant post you have been warned. For the people that did not know Walmart has two main IT teams one is Walmart.com (GEC in California) and the other is Wal-Mart (ISD in Arkansas). Recently we have joined as WalmartLabs, we share managers, data centers and GEC has given us (ISD) a lot of the work load with none of the work going to GEC. Starting 2018 GEC will now have unlimited PTO time, health benefits way cheaper and plus the better pay and stocks compared to Arkansas. We have been told they have done this for Key Talent Areas to be more competitive and this will not be done to Arkansas because we are by the Home-office. I can understand the pay because housing in California is more expensive, but the PTO and Health piss a lot of us in Arkansas OFF. In essence we (ISD) are remote employees for GEC. We get the work but none of the benefits. They don’t give a crap about us and they are removing a lot of the culture that Sam Walton put in place that made Walmart what it is today. GEC PTO unlimited ISD PTO 36 max days after 15 years this is also sick time and holidays. Rant Over now you Know.
Dude you work at Walmart
Good rant. I sometimes forget Walmart has other employees than the interesting cashier and front of house managers.
Same. Never think about a tech staff or corporate tech.
Interviewed @apple with a guy who was from Walmart labs. Seems like he made the right move.
That’s pretty shitty but look at it from their POV. No one in Arkansas has any other options locally, meanwhile everyone at Labs or Jet could easily jump ship for more cash without even moving.
The way they are going about the unlimited PTO in California is bullshit, though. We have to exhaust our PTO before we can use Fiex PTO. Have you checked out spam on slack? Big angry discussion there
Also look on the bright side. You guys can buy a house near your work. I make a lot but can't afford a house
I work in CA and I fucking hate unlimited PTO. It's a scam and BS
It almost always is. Welcome to the club.
Exactly, OP... relax... unlimited PTO is good for the company, not the employees! You still have to request for PTO, and someone is always counting. And if you leave the company, you have nothing to cash out.
Remember that employment law is also different in California than in Arkansas. Look at the Employee Handbook and note the "California only" rules.
Dude no one takes unlimited pto, people will take 2 weeks max. I would take 20 days over it anyday
That's bull. Sorry to hear that man
