I was approached by an internal WM recruiter on LinkedIn about possible consideration for a role as Principal DS in HQ. Was not really looking into WM tech roles at all, but started researching (even it might be "pie in a sky" deal rn). I am "happily" employed as mid-level (and only) DS at my current medium-size company near Houston, TX for more than 10 years; we have International branches as well. However, relocation is a possibility. The important question for me is how strict are hours and PTO for new hires (accumulated 5 weeks at my current company, just recently actually started using them, but still would work on vacation - it is analytics, mind really never shuts down), just like the flexibility of traveling and working remotely from time-to-time)... Any other info on DS team(s)? What is happening in term of new campus and "open office"?Day-in-life of DS? #walmart

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
It’s great, family oriented company. Generally, it’s 7:3-530, and u dont have to accrue PTO, start out with 3-4 weeks generally. With that said, If u r a minority, Bentonville is a tough pill to swallow. While most pple are pleasant, You will encounter quite a few ignorant folks. church life is a big thing there as well, and the good ole boy culture is still very much alive.
It's more like 9-530 to be honest, at least in tech. 1st year PTO - 21 days but you don't get holidays off. Pay is relatively competitive.
Thank you for replies! I am "sort of minority" )), but have been working in Ag industry for more than 20 years. Can deal with "ole boy culture" - unless it too much. ;) In my life can relate well with IT folks and to agronomists/farmers alike... Not a churchgoer but accustomed to that culture. ))) So general question @afxdA37 how is the hiring process at WM HQ usually goes is there remote "tech" test/interview? I have a good portfolio of projects related to the role but haven't taken anything like that or "whiteboard" coding. It is not a developer role though, it is DS - Feature engineering - GIS and at Principal level, so do not know...
