Been applying to positions in the tech industry. I’ve been at 2 NASA centers as a contractor: JPL- 80k now Langley- 55k (no bonus, no annual raises, bare bones benefits) 9 YOE Bachelors in Project Management It’s definitely time for a change, as I’m finding it hard to make a living with such a low salary and no raises as the cost of living goes up around me. Thoughts: Tech start ups vs Big Tech companies and why? #tech #nasa #meta #startup #google
Join big tech company, get some stocks and savings under your pocket and then take risks with an even higher paying startup.
THIS. I want to do this, I’ve been applying to Meta, Google, Dell, VMWare, etc..
How is working at NASA? What's pay like as a FT employee? Interesting tech/projects?
Very interesting projects at JPL. I worked MARS2020, SWOT, Europa Clipper, etc etc. Lots of great interesting things, lots to learn. But very hard to get in if you don’t “know someone” and very much degree strong culture. Everyone cares what your degree is in. Most are STEM. On the Federal side of NASA (everywhere but JPL), its like any other work place, work can get slow and boring depending what you do. If you go in as contractor, depends on the company as far as pay, but if not you have to climb the GS ladder like anyone else.
