I used to work for a manufacturing company (big conglomerate) in the Midwest (worked there for almost 10 years). My TC was mere $105k but my perks included travel around the world once every two weeks (I love to travel and explore) and extremely low pressure job. I was the top performer and people (including the VP) knew my name. I loved my job and every minute I spent doing my work. I decided to get a part time MBA since I doubted the future of the conglomerate and soon after graduating landed a job with Amazon in Seattle (TC went up to $190k). I met some really smart people and learnt a lot but in the end I missed doing things which I did in my previous job. There was no travel and I was a HV at best, I had to constantly prove that I am not falling behind the ever increasing bar. Up until recently I moved into another tech company since I hated Amazon’s dog eat dog culture - My TC went up to $290k but I am again stuck with a desk job and a work culture better but similar to Amazon (since my entire team is from AWS). My increasing TC has not been able to buy happiness nor the job satisfaction which I once had. Sucks but I feel getting Amazon on the resume didn’t do much except getting me higher TC. How many of you have been in similar situations? How did you deal with this?
I can understand it, i’m also in same boat
This is very scary. I start Amazon Aug 3 (L5 Finance role). I am on a visa and my main driving force to Amazon is green card. Is this a good decision? My current company is in the midwest (extremely laid back) and promising greencard although they are scared the process is too complicated. Am I making the right decision? Should i just stay back here?
I'm not sure why you didn't prioritize the things that are important to you when you looked for a new position. Sounds like you should do so soon.
In a similar position. Hate my current gig, post-MBA at Amazon. TC 180k. Looking to make a switch.
I am also from Midwest but I want to go there because I feel stuck and falling behind learning newer skills that will eventually help me in the future.. I both love and hate the laid back culture here..but it is what it is..I am trying really hard because the laid back attitude made me lazy
In your case you don’t “love” your job. Makes perfect sense if it is slowing you down.
This is concerning me a lot. I start Amazon next week and am nervous I made the wrong decision. Going from $130k to $220k but nervous about wlb. I have 10 yoe and have a really easy job now but am so bored. Thought amazon would be good since I could learn more and get outside my comfort zone.
In same situation, I have been mulling over my decision every day after seeing these posts on Blind. Surprisingly, all such posts are about Amazon only, which makes me wonder more about my decision.
Same starting to get worried...My thought at first was that maybe it was related to hiring new grads or inexperienced people. Since maybe they haven’t experienced working a lot so it’s more of an adjustment from school. I used to work 60-70 hrs week when I first started my career. But more worried about the pip or being fired after seeing these posts. I’ve never had that happen or even had a bad rating. Esp 10 years into my career I don’t want to get fired. Just nervous because my spouse is relocating too and it’s a lot of pressure to make this successful when it’s not just your life.
Amazon is never the right choice, you are trapped
you had a very sustainable and simple life. you sold it. obviously stupid and now you gotta work to get it back. Anyone from aws needs to be shot upon release so that toxic shit stays contained

The fact that you're asking that question means you already have the answer
It looks like it might be time to leave and look for something better but prioritize culture and anything else that's important to you over TC
