Stuck at a shitty company in DC.. just moved here and still getting a feel for the tech scene. Anyone know where the best places to work are?
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW... Just kidding. Maybe there are a lot of tech companies in North Virginia to work for and Amazon is expanding there?
"tech scene" includes a lot of different jobs. What exactly do you do? Do you have a clearance?
IT consultant. Looking to get into project management. No clearance other than public trust
Well... If you're looking to get into project management and have no experience, I'd say try to find a place willing to get your foot in the door as a PjM and then go from there. Otherwise, consider a vendor like Microsoft. Occasionally you'll find good contracting companies, but most are Cleared work in DC. DMI was a good company to work for a number of years ago when I was there.
Do you work for Microsoft services?
I do
Or apply for government jobs if you don't ever plan to leave the DC area. Benefits are good and stability, plus most Govs end up doing some kind of project management
Google and Capital One are good companies in the area
Does google do any non-cleared SE work? I will never get a clearance but I guess Iād grind LC for a google interview if they hire for SE otherwise.
T Rowe price up in Owings Mills is a great company
If you want to do project management, you can pretty much do that anywhere. The area is dominated by the large government contracting/consulting firms like BAH, Deloitte, Accenture, PWC, KPMG.
You could come to Amazon HQ2 if you love šš, lots of hiring
I am a new grad (CS), and I am going to join a service branch of a Tech firm. I feel you.
