I'm Non-Eng (Design Researcher) I have offers from Waymo and Lyft. Leaving aside salary / benefits, which would you choose? Waymo recruiter said something cryptic about 'bad things going on at lyft...state of technology, management, culture,' or something. Obviously she's trying to scare me but it kind of worked? Lyft recruiter is way too nice to talk that kinda shit ( pink mustaches!! ). Any thoughts on positives and negatives?
TC or GTFO, just kidding. I have friends at Lyft design, they really like it there. Even if I didn't know anyone probably I'd choose Lyft over waymo.
Can you say more about your reasoning?
Hard to tell where any of the AV programs are in reality. But waymo is safer bet given it has a massive sugar daddy vs Lyft which has an OK rides business
Wow, is that even a question ?
Um, yes?
You will forget both the recruiters two months into the job. The lyft recruiter is being nice because he/she doesnt have value to add. Being nice is a part of their strategy. The lyft job may not stay five years later, if that is something you care about. You may not get the waymo job then. If you work at waymo, lyft will always hire you and pay you more than they are willing to pay now. The other way may not be true. Waymo has much better brand, access to capital, access to talent at this point. That is why i was suprised by the question. Choice is yours.
Probably more personal growth at Lyft, more opportunities to take on responsibility. Much more polished systems at Waymo, good place to develop good habits if you re early in your career. I know you said to leave out money, but your job at Lyft is less likely to exist in 5 years than at waymo.
