If not China, who else is gonna make the shit you buy from Home Depot? I feel like we will have trade deficit with someone no matter what. China is pretty shady but the whole trade deficit premise might be flawed.
Vietnam and Cambodia for cheap stuff, Taiwan for mid range. High end would be US or Japan.
I wouldnt mind seeing Mexico replace China but the issue of a trade deficit will remain. Just with someone else.
I do think the solution to trade deficit is to sell back higher margin products like services, as opposed to producing lower margin products like commodities in house :/
Good to diversify with suppliers. They need not be in only one place.
wasn't there news about China itself outsourcing to Africa ?
Find some Americans to do your dirty work.
well, probably that’s the only chance to stop consuming that much
Mexico
Believe it or not, there was a time when most of the stuff you bought in the store was made in America or Europe. Your parents are probably old enough to have lived through that time. They survived, and so will you! Plus, we have robotics now, so I really don’t see this becoming an issue.
Wonder if Modi’s India should fill the void.
No. We won't make the same mistake the US made 20 years ago.
I don’t buy shit.
Are you talking about tools and appliances? A lot of merchandise of HD is local (e.g. building materials).
Agreed that HD was a weird example. Just about everything is made in China, but raw materials are sourced from all over.
