Most people I know hate meetings. Because most of them are useless. If you create meetings - why don't you do a better job? If you attend meetings - why do you still go? I know amazon has a reading rule before every meeting. Does it help?
Go a few minutes early into the meeting, keep your phone in your pocket and strike a conversation with those in meeting room while waiting for meeting to start. Helps in bulding relationships with team members sometimes. My experience and something i do as i have remote team members too. Everything thats discussed in meetings is useless for sure.
80% of my meetings are 30min or less and very productive.
How do you do this magic?
1) schedule them short to keep group focused - 30min slots ideal. 1h only for bigger things (launches, bug bashes, strategy discussion, etc) 2) cut it short and give time back once discussion got to the point (sometimes it's less than 10min) 3) invite only people who really need to be in it and only attend those that you're really needed (if you're uncertain don't go and let somebody ping you on chat asking you to join) 4) do call/videoconference instead of physical for any non critical meeting (perhaps the most counterintuitive but the most crucial. Walking to conference rooms and to neighboring building is a huge waste of time) 5) set up and lead the majority of the meetings you attend so you control its productivity 6) put a short agenda in the meeting invite and always end reiterating to the group aligned conclusions and next steps
