What should I plan for next 2years? Should I work hard and aim for wharton school of business or become leetcode master? TC: 145k in colorado @oracle. MS in computer science 5 yoe
This is heights.. comparing leetcode masters with Wharton..if you are leetcode master no one will give their shit.. if you are Wharton everyone will give their shit no matter how dumb you are..
Depends on what you want out of your career. If you want to go the executive route, the MBA will help get you there. If you want to be SWE at a top company in the bay, leetcode.
Okay thanks for your response
If you want to stay in tech, leetcode, great write up I found a while back and posted on a couple other MBA related threads: https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2018/05/29/do-i-need-an-mba-to-be-a-product-manager-in-tech/
Thanks for the article.
Just become a PM. I have no MBA but moved internally to product management a couple years into my career at Amazon (am about ~7 years in now). I am now over at FB making TC $400k in a really senior role at 28 years old. If I would have done an MBA it for sure would have been negative ROI b/c I would have given up a couple years of amazon comp and not kept leveling/climbing. Now with both FB and AMZN on my resume nobody gives a fuck where I went to school and assumes I did a top 5 MBA anyway and am at least 3-5 years older than I am.
Do you want to be an engineer writing code or a business leader? Not sure anyone can answer this without knowing what you like to do. These paths unlock completely different roles. I encourage you to assume comp and prestige will be the same and focus on the type of job you want long term.
I want to be business leader. So wharton will be right option.
You will make more money for next 6-8 years as leetcode expert. However MBA from top school starts helping more after that....
Wharton. It gives you infinitely more options than just tech and it’s an accelerated path to leadership positions
Thanks
One does not just practice and get into Wharton. Is your work experience good enough? Have you demonstrated any leadership potential? Just make sure you have a backup plan if you don't get in. With 5yoe, your time to apply is now. If you wait, they will likely label you too old.
What has the world come to?! 😱
Wharton gives a good bump in prestige if that matters to you. One way to break out of being the hated tech bro
Ok that's nice.
