I remember waking up when I was 25. I only had 50K in the bank, nothing invested in stocks, and my TC was 80K. I had just taken a big long vacation around Europe and felt like the richest person in the world. Not a care in the world. Great friends, great relationship. It was a beautiful summer. I didn’t even know people made even 200K as software engineers nor did I care to know. I remember being 22 graduating college and getting the call from the recruiter with my 70K offer and thinking I had lucked out with having a job right out of college. I remember being 20 and getting my first ever paycheck at my first internship. It paid me $16/hr. Anything above minimum wage felt like a luxury to me. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be making that much at 20. How about you? How did you feel with less money?
lol so true. And today people are slaving themselves to pay for 1m+ properties that will only make them more miserable lol
No
TC?
Total compensation
People are more happy at 25 than at 45. Simple fact, money doesn’t really factor into the equation. No amount of TC can bring you back to your youth
This isn’t true. Depression and anxiety is highest in your 20s. Least common 50+ age group
This is so wrong. Are you in your late 30s and trying to cope ?
Maybe all the fomo of seeing people make 200k+ and wanting to “catch up” is actually just an illusion with the last stop at suffering
@OP happiness is internal state - not external. not many can have that - you can.
It's not about less money. It's more about the age. At 20 your world is still surrounded by people you've know all your life. As you grow older, people drift away and you start having responsibilities. Ex. Not obsessing over TC might not make you happy. Some folks have an unhealthy obsession with TC but most people want to grow. Getting better is part of human nature. And they are able to live happy lives too.
Thank you, this is the correct answer. It's not about salary, but age, expenses, and responsibility that come with being middle aged vs 20
Yes
You need to give something to life in order to get something from it. For ex. At 25, looks like you travelled and felt good. At 22, worked hard, graduated, achieved what you were working towards for 3-4 years.
