Asking on behalf of my friend. She joined Microsoft (Seattle) 3 weeks ago and her current circumstances are not favorable for move to Seattle.
1. There are few jobs (some remote) within Microsoft. If she interviews/applies to other positions, will her manager be informed about this?
2. Will moving this soon to another team within the company badly impact on her performance reviews?

P.S: Her manager wants her to move as soon as office opens.

Why was none of this discussed _before_ joining?

    1. Why the fuck did she not discuss this prior to joining?

    2. Absolutely no sane manager is going to hire someone that wants to jump ship from their current MSFT role after a few weeks of their joining.

It will be a while before Microsoft or anyone opens for really. She can stay on the team working remotely and then change teams if manager will insists.

Changing job always better than changing teams for < 1 yr tenure .

So I donโ€™t think they will keep the October date. Google and Amazon already moved to next year. In any case, you canโ€™t move right away. Itโ€™s like 1 year? The new hiring manager is going to ask for your review feedback which you wonโ€™t have plus they will definitely ask why you are leaving after 3 weeks.
