Feel Bloomberg tech is so outdated with lots of legacy. Techs like Rapid, comdb I think are useless for future career growth. So what open-source tech or skills I should learn to keep myself competitive? Like Kafka? Really hope to listen to comments from those who has left Bloomberg to pure tech. Thanjs!
Typescript (in R+ teams)?
A lot of stuff in Software Infra I think would be useful anywhere.
C++?
Bloomberg writes some ass backward autistic kind of C++ that runs on Sun and AIX, not that useful. Unless you're on a team that's Linux only.
Dealing with ancient code and ancient systems. Working with people from across the ability and intelligence spectrum. Learning how to get said people to change without ruffling feathers. Etc.
Ancient code is just for bbg or universal everywhere in Google Facebook?
Universal but not everyone has legitimate ossified fossils like we do.
tons of things. System design. BPAAS. Coding standards, etc. But the most useful thing I learnt from BB is how to push back requirements.
You probably should have posted this in the Bloomberg channel...
