I've never programmed in Java/Python/C++ professionally. While I can easily read pretty much any code, I won't be able to produce bug-free code with any of these languages. Went through Amazon's OA and it doesn't support Go, so I had to choose JS. What FAANG and FAANG-like companies allow to use Go? Targeting NY.
There are teams within goog that use Go heavily, but I don't know if I would bet on that since onsites are a bit of a grab bag. Remitly's infra and security teams also use Go a fair bit, so that might be an option too.
If you specify your language as Go, recruiter will only match you with interviewers that can read/write/interview Go
Yeah well ... I’m doing iOS - which is much more popular ... specifically also interviewed for iOS I swear interviewer didn’t see a line of swift in his life in the phone round (passed btw)
For interviews I’ve had candidates do Go, but with the understanding they’d mostly be writing Java if they joined. Even had one person join, and it’s been going fine. But I don’t expect bug free code on a whiteboard because I hate whiteboard interviews and am more interested in attention to detail and the approach/algorithm. I won’t fail anyone for not doing a null check.
Everyone allows you to use any coding language of your choice.
Go is a very verbose language like java. Atleast java compensates with lambdas and good collection library. I don’t think any FAANG companies are going to discourage it.but u get a connect when u code it up in language that is used by most people!
Fair point. Does Uber allow to use Go? I have an interview with Uber early next year. P.S. Lambda expressions are also called function literals. Go supports them completely.
It should be fine to use go in Uber interviews because it’s widely used by Uber engineers.
I have used Go for all my interviews including Google onsite interview
And failed those interviews? Just asking
Not all .. and it wasn't because of the choice of programming language in fact I had explicitly mentioned to the recruiters in the first call itself that I am looking to use Go for the interviews
Google accepts Golang for interviews. I mean, it also developed the language so I guess this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

If you are not capable to master any of Java/Python/C++ language, you probably shouldn’t be a engineer in FAANG anyway, why bother to sneak in and get fire soon?
Did you read what I wrote there? I've never programmed in Java/Python/C++ _professionally_. Should I learn Java just for the interview? This is silly. In addition, I'm not interested in any for those big ball of mud languages.
And I did Go at AWS interview with none knowing Go and passed, Go ahead
