Just promoted to SDE II, shit pay increase, boring work, lazy team. Where should I go next? Where did other Amazonians go after promo? I’d like to stay in Seattle. Thinking something not FAANG like Snap, Airbnb, Lyft, etc. Thoughts? TC: 180k YoE: 2
Don’t come to google, I’ll tell you that. More or less the same 🥱
Are you based in Seattle? What do you work on?
Do it!
Do what? My issue is that I don’t know what to do 😞
Interview and go somewhere else. Make a pact with yourself that if you get a certain amount of TC what luxury purchase will you make.
Can i ask what the pay increase is?
One extra 🍌 and couple more 🥜🥜 In all seriousness, no pay increase immediately after promo, for at least a year
That’s strange I’ve seen very good increase for all promotions I did. You should get more. Message me if you need some inputs
Come here!
Are you in Seattle? What kind of work do you do?
Same level, same TC, same sentiment, same question
Tough spot to be in. If I were forced to make a decision right now I would probably go with Snap since I use the product, they do cool work with AR/VR/MR, and they pay well. What other companies have you considered?
Depends on what you are looking for in your career and what motivates you at work. Seattle had a lot of cloud talent so the opportunities in that space are the best compared to other cities.
Snap is fun, you should be able to land L4 and make roughly 400k per year here
Snap is definitely at the top of my list, I like and use Snapchat every day and I think the AR/VR/MR aspects are really interesting. What do you do?
Why? I thought Seattle sucks
I like Seattle, I want to live in a city for a while for the experience since I am young. I’m also a fan of the new, high rise, luxury apartments with the amenities, the 24/7 concierge, and the modern stylings (large windows, sleek white counters and cabinets, glass and metal exterior). I like owning a vehicle for the flexibility and I enjoy cooking so a useful kitchen with gas range, an island, and storage is desired. Big hiker and skier as well. Seems like Seattle is the only place that has what I am looking for. Perfect blend of city, mountain, lake, forest, island, beach, and suburban living, all within a ~20 minute drive of downtown. The only other big cities for tech workers that I know of would be NYC and SF. NYC is too old and an apartment that doesn’t look straight into a brick wall or someones living room 20ft away seems rare based on my searches. Not to mention the lack of a proper kitchens and less enjoyable hiking. Of course, this could be found but then I’m paying 10k/mo For SF, similar issues for me. Not a lot of new high rises, more full of old buildings which is cool and I would definitely want a place with more character eventually, just not now. The new ones I’ve seen like NEMA have bad reviews of insane rent increases and subpar amenities and I’m pretty sure homelessness is even worse in SF than Seattle. Seattle rains a lot but I like my jackets 😎 It seems to have a good combination of cost of living, new constructions, beautiful scenery, and employment options
