What should Oracle Cloud Infra (OCI) be doing product marketing/promotions related that AWS and Azure are doing really well? Not engineering/product related but more branding/marketing wise...
Boots on the ground. Both companies see much higher growth when customers are hand held.
1) Establish yourself as a separate engineering culture from Oracle. Establish that you operate very differently, have different comp structures, and have a much higher bar in terms of comp and hiring. 2) As @BizExec said, boots on the groud. 3) Oracle Cloud Infra needs a better website. Ask your marketing team to hire their own web developer team, separate from other web devs and their singular goal is to convey the message loud and clear that you are top of the game and what you have to offer. 4) Presence in the developer community. Google cloud is trying this but failing in a verg Googly way. I heard they go to Engineering University schools and hold workshops and sessions on small google cloud 'fun' proframs that educates the students on what they can do. They also give out free credits i heard.
OCI is IAAS. Don't target developers but ITPros and DevOps. Otherwise good advice
Yeah the presence and pushing it hard to the dev community was my standing. The google cloud university outreach was more of an example. Thanks for pitching in @BizExec. I should have phrased it right.
1. Not have anything to do with the name “Oracle”
1) Build a product that doesn’t require dishonest marketing 2) Build a product that doesn’t require threats to sell 3) Build a product that markets itself 4) Remove “Oracle” from the name 5) Build a product that doesn’t suck Actually, that all sounds too hard. How about reselling AWS or Azure under the OCI name?
Ya unfortunately there is probably nothing you can do to win back customer trust. Your CEO is an idiot and until he decides to stop price gouging customers you are stuck. As some others have mentioned probably remove any hint of Oracle from the company and try and brand yourself as a completely separate autonomous subsidiary. Then you can work on innovation, otherwise it's probably all wasted effort.
Having worked at Oracle, I can safely say that your team already knows what it needs to be doing. It just doesn't believe in it. Any advice we can offer has likely and already been posed internally, and dismissed quietly. OCI is no different.
Basically hire a shaman or an exorcist and purge the spirit of Oracle. Not kidding, I would actually do this and make something of a spectacle of it.
Have oracle open world twice a year..... rebrand OCI with better products , features and pricing .... have more conferences worldwide to promote OCI ..... Promote OCI in universities ...... Have hackathons , code events more often with OCI branded t-shirts and prizes to gifted and talented developer community .... have a competition (similar to Netflix recommendation problem) with huge money and a relevant problem to solve for oracle..... advertise more on channels like YouTube and Facebook.... digital advertising.... promote accomplishments in oci in linkedIN blogs and posts.... phew !! That's all for now
Would love oci doing these things but 🤦♂️
Let me guess, you are director of product marketing there?
