What are the "4 axes" that Facebook looks across in interviews?

I've had my first phone interview (over Bluejeans) with Facebook for a E5 positon, a month ago. As usual, I was given two tasks to solve. I've solved the first one, but failed to solve properly the second one. I have friends who were in a worse situation, when they solved only one and never got to the second algo to solve since there was no time left.
In the end, no luck. They told me "we won't be proceeding with your candidacy". When asking why, since I've solved one task, I've got the response: "We look for positive signal across 4 axes across 2 questions. If we don’t see enough we pass this time around. It’s not always answering a question correctly".
Anyone knows what are these 4 axes the interviewers are looking for?

Are you talking about the two coding problems on the phone screen?

In that case, I think they're referring to: communication, problem solving, coding, and verification. This is information my recruiter told me

Thanks! These must be them. I could see where I could have done better in the communications and verification.

  • The common structure is to ask simpler problem first and then harder later (so, two total). The idea is that you will at least solve the first one and feel better about yourself which is important when you have multiple interview in sequence. Interviewer looks for coding/verification skills and problem solving/communication. This only applies to coding interviews not system design or behavioral.

The interviewer kept the code after I've finished the first task. He definitely looked at it again afterwards, and I assume he found bugs that I didn't find during my verification. I think this is where my verification failed. Add to it the fact that I have to improve my communication skills, and here's my asnwer.
Thanks for your reply. It helps!

Follow-up couple more times. If not then take screenshot and tag company on theTwitter. Tag mark zuckberg too.

  • Yes two coding, a systems design and a behavioral interview. You need to do well in all of these.
