Palantir had/has the forward deployed software engineer role which I believe is a really nice version of consulting which includes travel.
As a researcher at Google Brain, I get to travel every time I have a paper accepted (+ one bonus conference per year). I've been to Barcelona, Sydney, Montreal, Copenhagen, New Orleans, Beijing, etc.

Work for Google outside of Bay Area. Lots of travel to Bay area... (But in general, Google is a very distributed company and some teams spans multiple offices and do lots of travel)
If you become a solutions architect you’ll travel a lot more.

Solutions architect is a title, not the same as software architect. Do you not talk to other people at amazon or are you just inexperienced?
