At Amazon, I do not get time to work on my personal projects. I miss the quality time I used to spend on my personal projects. They used to be my foundation of technical expertise at work. There's just so much work in a two week sprint and the constant fear (in my mind) of not being in the bottom 10% because everyone else working their ass off. Weekends time, outside of on-calls, is insufficient considering so many things to do at home and I have a family. TC: 240K

I suppose most of them are better than Amazon. From personal experience, at Oracle I could spend as much time as I wanted on anything. At Google I am seeing half of my coworkers doing exactly nothing (zero code written in a year).

I just accepted an offer at Amazon. I still love my personal projects. Is this a common theme across Amazon? Grind at all times?
same experience i had in Amazon, but I had so much passion for my project I spent my extra time on that eventually quit.
How many hours do you think you were putting in at Amazon weekly? 45 ish?
