I feel confused right now. Have been trying for Technical Program Manager jobs since last 8 to 9 months. I am currently working with the same title as well in a well known established networking company. My overall industry exp is 13 years..but relevant to the title is 8 years. I have consistently been clearing phone interviews for companies..and have gone to onsite interviews at 3 companies so far. But somehow none has worked out so far. I am confused as to what am I missing in the preparation or missing the edge entirely. Any TPM here who could help guide me how did they prepare and what materials worked to get into FANG or M? Really appreciate all the guidance here.
Cultural fit?
Imposter syndrome?
Hmm...I do get nervous ...just a natural instinct to interviews..but not sure if that comes across as Imposter syndrome...cud be...
maybe personality... PM’s need people’s skills as well a particular mindset/personality. Probably you come off as not having the right personality....
Agree...and I really work on that. Since I do similar job and have been doing the same for close to 8 years...its hard why wud i not come across as people person. But u may be right. I will work more on that. Thanks.
The small talk in the interview is just as important as the people skills. Also, enthusiasm is quite important. I suggest looking on LinkedIn at some of the articles geared for this.
I somehow feel it's not my soft skill. Somehow the 'Technical' part for this role is very diverse and since my background is networking...somehow it's hard to convince that I can do similar PM job with a diff domain. Not sure if that's the case. 2 companies ghosted at me after the onsite interviews..and even the 3rd one..I had to go behind the recruiter for so long to find out that I mmnot selected. It's frustrating.:(
Did you ask for feedback after the interviews? Could it be that the FANG companies you are after are more consumer-focused whereas Cisco is more business focused, so there’s a mismatch?
So..2 of the companies ghosted at me. Not sure why .. so never ever received the decision nor the feedback. For another ..I went behind recruiter for a week only to hear a NO..else they wud have ghosted too I guess :). There was one telephonic with Facebook, when the recruiter emailed to say no..I asked for the feedback and she only mentioned that they cant give full feedback as it's against the policy...but that they had other candidates that they went ahead it.
On sites have not been with FANG so far.. :(
Well. There is lots of companies here.
Patience and perseverance. Once u get the first interview cleared then u will be unstoppable
Thanks.but u somehow feel the interviewers are looking for something extra. And I have no idea what that could be
Really looking for some prep material or advise.....I have been going around answering completely based on my exp so far.... but at onsite interviews I feel they expected something above n beyond .
