I am about to graduate from university with a master's in physics and artificial intelligence implementations to data with experience in Data Science through a summer internship. And I still don't know what to do with my life. I am very interested in data and I have completed the final on-site interviews with IBM and a 40billion dollar hedge fund for a Quant position but I have not secured a position yet, these two companies went with other candidates, and this uncertainty is stressing me out. I love data science but I also enjoy developing algorithms to recognise patterns so Quant sounded exciting, also I am enjoying Leetcoding quite a bit, advent of code and hacker rank. What should I do after university??? YOE: 0 TC: 🥜²
First thing, stop writing overly long sentences. One idea per sentence.
That's actually a fair point, thanks for the feedback ;)
Also, why "Quant at Hedge Fund / Bank" is an option if, by your own admission, none of the firms where you applied have expressed much interest so far?
Yes, first you need to calm down. Keep applying to all sorts of comoanies. Once you have an offer that gives you 4 times more peanuts than you currently have, it'll boost your confidence. The choices also depend on what you want from life. I would say go for hedge fund if you want good money, but be ready to grow that bald spot! These choices are not as easy. The best case scenario for you would be to have only one option and then you wouldn't have room to stress about choices😜
Thank you for the advice!!
Continue to get stronger every day and try again . You have a long career ahead and there would be setbacks. Most setbacks you can overcome by working harder and trying strategically ! Good luck!
Thank you for the advice and support!!!
McDonald's labs
You jest, but McD Labs is a real thing. They are trying to recruit me to run a large group there. Not that I am interested, but their money is green and they have acquired some interesting startups.
i know it's a real thing. that's why i mentioned it
