"No rules rules" by Reed Hastings , interesting read. Goes over a lot about the culture, compensation and bar of excellence. What do folks inside or outside Netflix think about it? #netflix
I do admire how they keep business complexity down by hiring only people who can simplify the complexity or handle multiple roles. I have seen the alternative where companies will spin up new products and hire people to operate them without taking this added long term cost into consideration. 20+ years of this and you have a Ticketmaster.
It takes the culture deck and breaks it down into bite sized pieces. Most interesting parts to me were how some of the ideas were formed in the early days of the company. Overall solid book. Nothing surprising for people working there, but interesting to read
I love how they’re like, we encourage our employees to take recruiters’ call from other companies, but you gotta tell us how much they’re offering, otherwise you’re a traitor! Any Netflix recruiters wanna share the salary range for Managers and Directors on the creative side?
Directors and up can see everyone's salary. Reed wanted to open it up to every employee and it was shot down.

Frankly he didn’t go far enough. Much too soft in my opinion. Good book for a bunch of noobs, but if you want to eat nails in the morning like me, this book will make you go to sleep.
What books do you recommend?
The Road
Do you poop nails too?
I actually poop out glass. It’s more hardcore. Pooping nails is for losers.
If the nails are made of iron, you’d have a hard time pooping anything at all.

Musings (rant?) of an old timer
It's more or less the culture deck that has been available for a decade with more concrete examples. Recommended if you are interested in joining Netflix. I wished every company had a book like that.
