What Google is to the internet, Bloomberg is to finance
Can you elaborate? Is it a database of finance information?
That and much more. Like "I wonder what company XYZ free cash flow was in Q4 in 1989 and how did compare with the overall economic indicators". There is also direct market access for enterprise customers who trade directly from the terminal and much, much, more. For example, sports betting odds, automated news reports and summary's for news related to your Portfolio and so on. Countless features catering to every niche but especially fixed income
They make terminals for trading. Think of it like ur one stop IDE but instead of software development it’s meant for trading. Shows u all kinds of graphs in widgets and stuff. Got messaging etc built into it.
Bloomberg is an irreplaceable part of finance. I’m not going to hate on FactSet or CapIQ but there is no comparison in terms of the detail, ease of use, speed, customer support etc. Think of Bloomberg kind of like the Stack Overflow of finance. I guess you could do your job without it, but it would totally suck and take a lot longer.
Extract an unreasonable amount of money from the flagging finance industry due to its monopolistic position.
Pseudo-monopolistic is the best monopolistic
Extract and redistribute it mostly to charity in recent times.
To my understanding they aggregate all financial data and provide it as a service through the bloomberg terminal and somehow on their website. They also have a news section that would be similar to the Financial Time or the Wall Street Journal
Glib answer: world’s most exclusive social network. Earnest answer: series of data services provided in the warm orange glow of the Bloomberg terminal. Market Data, Trading, Analytics, List of Richest People (excluding Mike himself), Classified Ads selling Lambos, and Maps showing shipping vessels and Corona outbreaks. And a whole lot more.
Don't forget the monthly soup menu!
INTERNAL ONLY! I can only imagine how much elite financial institutions would value checking out the daily soup menu so they could go stand in line 20 minutes early so they can get a soup before some greasy engineer grabs 4 of them.
Field a retirement community of mediocre to bad engineers
Bloomberg, the guy? Rest and vest
~25k USD annual subscription of media/messenger service for high net worth individuals and financial organisations
