Is ORCL cloud somehow overnight going to destroy AWS’s years worth of competence or Azure’s enterprise friendliness?

How come ORCL employees won’t call his bluff? These CEOs are not gods. (Link : https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-fires-back-oracles-larry-210534315.html )

What does Larry Ellison smoke?
See the paragraph on how the 3 CEOs will only be paid if the oracle cloud succeeds to get $ORCL to 80 bucks

Overnight? no way. It comes down to pricing. To be able to deliver more with a reasonable price tag is very hard, but not impossible.

Lmfao what. I interviewed for an Oracle sales rep position in the past. Super glad I didn't get it. Oracle Cloud barely registers on the meter. Even Google Cloud is better.

Oracle's latest earnings report showed more revenue gained in cloud than lost in on prem. So there's your example of growth beyond cannibalization @toxicrick

That’s good and all - but is Oracle cloud going to scale to the capacity of AWS and beyond so quickly - isnt there a big lead time on ordering hardware - there’s only limited manufacturing capacity- already intel is churning out SSDs in repurposed semiconductor fabs right down the street

      @ToxicRick you are absolutely right.

MSFT rents D.C.s around the world, Oracle can do the same....

@ClouDev, do you think that growth had anything to do with spending almost $10B on Netsuite?
      Oct 4, 2017
    • Oracle / Eng ClouDev
@Chatter Netsuite have their own DCs.

Fusion Apps (Oracle native SaaS stack) alone grew by ~50%, and the backorders refer only to that (should have been more precise).

That’s not to say that N hasn’t been doing great (though I’ve little to no visibility to their moves internally).

So you don't think that companies will move if they have an option to save 30% of OpEx? 🤔

Don't you think retailers will move out of AWS, since AMZN is their direct competitor? 🤔

I said: any vendor and you try to corner me to say Azure. Reading comprehension....

That said, you are completely missing the point(s) of the comment.

      1. 30% cheaper OpEx.
      2. Not a competitor.

Do you have anything to comment about the above two?
      Oct 4, 2017

It will be interesting to see any major cloud provider having 30% cheaper OpEx considering reliability and feature required to build a successful cloud business.

Focusing on a very narrow market segment people small cloud provider may achieve that goal.

Being competitor may push few vendors from certain cloud providers like Retailers from AWS .. but if that is only advantage someone targeting then you need to be best among the rest of the available choices and Azure becomes very luclarative in that case.

Oracle need cloud to retain its own customer first before eating the market Pie from someone else.

    • Oracle / Eng ClouDev
      Point well taken.

Don’t forget that the main advantage MSFT and ORCL have over AWS and GC is that they already have 80% of the Fortune 500 companies as SaaS customers. Hence, they’ve their foot in the door.

Anyway, ORCL has its work cut out for it, and it’ll very challenging to catch up w/Azure and AWS.

In the elevator of my building they have a poster with a random metric that says that "our" cloud beat the Salesforce cloud! How nice is it to be better than a random, unrelevent cloud?
    Oct 2, 2017 6
    • Salesforce nEDW11
Lol.. That's why u all want to work at Salesforce... this "unrelevent" cloud is making 10B yearly now .. how many relevant clouds do you guys have doing the same?
      Oct 3, 2017

You're an idiot. Salesforce yearly REVENUE is $8.4B. Net income (profit) is under $200M.

Hey if Larry has to make this happen to get paid, maybe he'll make it happen.

But judging by how cumbersome dev is and how all decisions filter through top execs, I seriously doubt it.

Being a native Oregonian who witnessed how Oracle's attempt at creating the CoverOregon healthcare exchange went down, I kinda have to giggle at the thought of Oracle being able to pull this off.
      Oct 2, 2017
  • Amazon ttamazon
Yes, you are completely right. They will migrate from Oracle's legacy high paying license structure to Oracle cloud first. Then will rearchitect the system and move to AWS :P

Retailers may move out of AWS, but they are likely going to be moving to Microsoft then to Oracle

My post is about the arrogance of Ellison - it would be acceptable if he explained these given the fact that AWS is a leader and Azure / GCP are close behind : and Oracle is catching up. He seems to supremely believe that AWS is trash and Azure doesn’t matter. That for me is what Nokia and Blackberry did when they trashed iPhone and Android and we know what happened.

Lol, you really think other vendors cannot make their system work and the customers cannot adjust the system?

Oracle especially Larry's use of audit as blackmailing to customers have burnt a lot of companies and trust, in the long run they will be the last vendor people will go to for cloud. They deserve every bit of it.

It's all just smoke and mirrors for the investors. Almost no one thinks LE, MH, or SC will be around this time next year. They are just trying to pump up the stock one last time before they bail.
