Launch, growing, mature, declining. Most products follow this cycle and the business strategies and customer targeting differs as the product traverses this journey.

A product lifecycle is usually the life of a product from introduction to the marketplace, to end of life or production, to the point it's no longer rolling off the assembly line or support is no longer provided. At Oracle with regards to licensing software lifecycle was introduction then 5 years of standard support, 2 years of sustaining support (EOL end of life), then Extended support (some support is provided but that version of the license is no longer sold). Hope that helps.
