1. Fake news and political propogandas 2. Age limit: Now it allows kids below 13 to use a restricted messenger so that they onboard to the platform early 3. Full of advertisements. 4. Former employees are regretful on what they have created It's destabilizing the social fabric. The platform is no more about connecting the world. It is just focusing on expanding its users (Congratulations on crossing the 2B+ mark) and generating more revenue. No offense to Facebook employees (I am personally a big fan of the Facebook infra team). It is more about the exec team at the company.
Zuckerberg recently said that he’s more interested in helping communities than in maximizing profits. And the kid messenger could be seen as a positive, I’m sure the employees behind it have the best of intentions. I’m waiting to see what they do next.
I don't understand their intention behind a messenger for kids below 13. It does help them expand their user base.
The reasoning we heard is something like this. It's not like kids that age are being away from technology and gadgets irrespective of whether Messenger exists or not. This would provide a safer way to interact with "trusted" contacts (trusted by parents), rather than them going on some much less validated surface. Do you disagree? What do you think should have been done instead? Do you think kids that age would not use anything if Messenger didn't exist?
What would you do to fix 1 and 3?
I must have missed all the good Amazon is bringing the world (crushing retail businesses, etc)
I am not defending Amazon here. But the level at which Facebook is impacting the society is more concerning to me. If I was a retail business owner, I would be worried by Amazon but i am not.
Wouldn’t be a Blind thread without a Microsoft guy with a huge chip on his shoulder. Literally nothing about Amazon in this thread but you just can’t resist...
Someone failed the interviews recently
It's not always about interviews. But just fyi - got an offer from both Google and Facebook. Going to Google. Though as I said before, I still admire the work done by Facebook Infra team.
>worried about political bias >accepts offer from Google
I love how that ex fb exec waited for Mark to go on paternity leave to talk shit about fb... lame... rumors of fb demise are greatly exaggerated
Link?
The former exec https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2017/12/11/16761016/former-facebook-exec-ripping-apart-society
Bet you'd still work here
Haters gonna hate
What's up next? Make world more open and connected, ;-) we are working on that for some time but we are not yet done
